About Govt. Teacher's Training College, Samastipur

COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATON (CTE) : INTRODUCTION Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs) Institutions have been established for preparation and professional development of secondary school teachers in the State as a result of centrally sponsored programme for restructuring and reorganization of Teacher Education Institution as envisaged in National Policy on Education-1986 and PoA 1992 of Govt. of India. There are Six CTEs presently running in the state in Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Chhapra, Saharsha and Samastipur Districts. As per guidelines of Govt. of India, there will be one CTE for every 3 districts in every state and so Eight New CTEs in Araria, Aurangabad, Patna, Purnea, Buxar, East Champaran, Munger and Siwan districts have been sanctioned by the State. Very soon all these new CTEs will become functional and will help fulfill the requirements of Secondary School Teachers as per the norms of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Right to Education (RTE). Due to the successful implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), now Samgra Shiksha and mandates of Right to Education (RTE), number of students passing class VIII is continuously increasing. It has created huge demand of secondary level of school education in the State. So, the requirement of trained teachers for secondary schools has also increased substantially. Government has established one secondary school in each Panchayat. To ensure the quality education in secondary schools Continuous Professional Development of secondary teachers will be required which will not be possible in the state until or unless CTEs work tirelessly to ensure the quality education in Secondary Schools.

Revised Guidelines of MHRD, Jan. 2004 envisaged the System of Secondary Teacher Education to perform the following broad functions:
a. Imparting Quality Pre-Service and In-Service Education to Secondary School Teachers
b. Development of Faculty of Elementary Teacher Education Institution and their Continuing Education
c. Providing General Resource Support to Secondary Schools and Elementary Teacher Education Institution and
d. Research, Innovation and Extension work in the field of Education and Elementary Teacher Education Institutions Some of the Specific functions visualized on the basis of the above broad functions are as follows:
